There’s an old saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with friends.” Advocating for students isn’t easy or a quick fix. Building an effective independent parent advocacy organization requires team work and coordination. We’re in it for all students, and we’re here for the long term. We’ll support each other, share credible and accurate information about the District, policies, and issues. We’ll be respectful, inclusive, confident and focused on making sure the needs of all students are the first priority in Menifee Union School District.

Effective advocacy begins with knowledge. The best way to learn what is really going on in our school district is to attend the district’s monthly board meetings. Our members read the agenda and related materials. We ask questions. Parents have a right to know what will be discussed by the Board of Trustees. Parents also have a right to make public comments on any agenda item. Parent participation in public meetings helps the District and the Board know how their decisions will impact students and their families.

Connected.

Building relationships is a key driver of successful advocacy. As a chapter of the Parent Association, Inc. we’ll be connected to other parent advocates statewide to share information about legislation and policies that impact all K-12 students in California. We’ll invite the Superintendent and each Trustee to meet with parents to discuss district policies and areas of improvement for student achievement and well being. We’ll keep the conversation going and help make advocating for students manageable for busy parents.
